With warm weather approaching, (hopefully), I've been thinking a lot about what we have to look forward to. Spring and summer always include fun outdoor activities, sports, and my favorite: beach time. Lately, I've been reflecting on my childhood, when summer was a magical time.
There was no school, only fun!
I spent weeks at several different summer camp programs that taught me about how to be a team player, meet new people, learn how to do different things, and gain some independence in a safe environment.
When I grew up, I learned that not everyone got to spends there summers the way that I did. I was so fortunate to be able to make memories and friendships that I have treasured over the years.
This, got me thinking.....
What if kids could go to camp for free?
How many more kids would get the chance to make positive childhood memories?
How many kids would meet their life-long friends at camp?
How many kids could we, as a community, provide these opportunities for?
Kids who go to public school get to attend for free every year, why not go to summer camp for free, too? So, this is my goal for this summer: to send as many 4-H kids to camp as possible, for free.
